InBody Composition Scan
Science & Benefits

InBody devices use a method called Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to measure body composition, which divides your weight into different components such as lean body mass and fat mass to assess health and nutrition.
Because of its technology, InBody has become one of the most accurate BIA devices on the market and has been found to give a high correlation of 0.98 to a DEXA scan for lean body mass in a population of adults.
Segmental ECW ratio analysis allows monitoring of abnormal changes in fluid balance due to injury, ageing, obesity etc. It provides a comprehensive picture of fluid composition in the body per segment, allowing targeted analysis with appropriate advice. All of these results are clearly presented in the form of a bar graph, making the differences easy to read.
Segmental Phase Angle is a powerful indicator of cell health and overall vitality and is accurately measured by the InBody 770. A higher phase angle indicates strong, functioning cells, while a lower value can indicate weakened cell membranes, often associated with malnutrition or health problems. The segmental aspect of the measurement makes it possible to assess each segment of the body separately. This measurement is essential for medical and sports professionals to assess overall health and monitor the effectiveness of treatments or training programmes.
Benefits of InBody Composition Scans
- Detailed Body Breakdown – Go beyond weight to see percentages of fat mass and lean muscle mass
- Accurate Progress Tracking – Accurately monitors changes in body composition over time, showing real results from lifestyle changes, which is motivating.
- Personalised Plans – Data on muscle mass, fat distribution, and BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) allows tailoring nutrition and workouts for specific goals
- Enhanced Motivation - Seeing detailed, positive changes in composition keeps motivation high, especially when scale weight isn't moving
- Visceral Fat Assessment – Identifies fat around organs (visceral fat), a strong indicator of risk for heart disease and diabetes.
- Health Risk Management – Helps identify risks for chronic illnesses and guides proactive management.
- Holistic Health Overview – Provides data on hydration, muscle imbalances, and cellular health, giving a more complete picture than BMI
- Guides Lifestyle Adjustments – Offers precise feedback on how diet, exercise, aging, or medications impact your body's makeup
- Injury & Recovery – Aids in monitoring muscle balance, crucial for rehabilitation and preventing future injuries, especially for athletes.
- Metabolic/Biological Age – Provides a metabolic/biological age assessment which reflects your bodies efficiency compared to the median.
